Exploring Parkes and Forbes

This year, we’re heading out west to Parkes and Forbes.

Guided by heritage specialist Dr. Roy Lumby, we’ll take in some wonderful streetscapes around these two historic towns.

We’ll also be visiting the famous radio telescope, and attending a special screening of ‘The Dish’.

Saturday afternoon: Roy will kick off with a walk along Clarinda Street, the main commercial hub of Parkes (2.00pm to 5.00pm).

Saturday evening: Join us for a screening of the much-loved movie The Dish, which was filmed at various locations in both Parkes and Forbes (7.00pm TBC).

Sunday morning: We’ll be led by Roy around the civic and religious precinct of Parkes (10.00am to 12.30pm).

Sunday afternoon: After a walk through Forbes, we’ll enjoy a relaxed evening meal at a select venue (2.30pm to 5.00pm).

Monday morning: Our journey will culminate with a visit to The Dish itself – the 64-metre Parkes Radio Telescope.

All attendees will receive a comprehensively illustrated booklet covering Parkes and Forbes.
