Modernist house, Canberra

The Modernist house at 107 Limestone Avenue, Braddon, was designed by Cuthbert Whitley and completed in 1940. Whitley (1886-1942) had joined the Department of the Interior Works Branch in 1912.
According to Andrew Metcalf he was mentored by John Smith Murdoch, and moved to Canberra in 1929 to run the Department of Works & Railways architectural office under the jurisdiction of Edwin Henderson. When the latter died in June 1939 Whitley became Chief Architect for a brief period (June to November 1939).
